Abstract
The paper deals with the evolution of linear communication networks along Italian coasts, especially in the peninsular South. The relationship between tourism development and accessibility of the tourist resorts is widely experienced. Long distance land accessibility is no longer necessary, in view of low cost flights, but the communication network is an important element for the integration between the neighboring resorts and their resources in order to expand the range of the offer. The case of Calabria and Basilicata shows a secular alternation between coastal expansion and kernel internal roads that up to now did not solve the touristic development. Non teleological evolution usually should obey a Bak-Sneppen scheme of evolution, but its random secular changes and the competition between different objectives seem to suggest the introduction of a fuzzy version of the original model.
