Doppio sogno. Lombroso, Freud e le donne

From a historical point of view, the Author analyzes Cesare Lombroso and Sigmund Freud’s opinions related to the role of women in society, highlighting affinities and common interests between the two illustrious scholars. They shared a cultural background of positivist and evolutionist ancestry that was strongly present in continental Europe at the time. The gender issue emerges both in Lombrosian criminology and in Freudian psychoanalysis, two systems of thought that follow each other temporally but which are part of a discursive path that has a profound impact on a rapidly transforming society, where the emancipation of women had become a disturbing matter. The Author compares the category of the “deviant/prostitute” woman prevalent in the fundamental book TheDelinquent Woman (but also in minor Lombrosian writings), with statements present in Freud’s works and in some minutes of meetings of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society. Ultimately, against the background of the two characters and their schools, the continuity with a patriarchal vision also linked to biographical affinities is highlighted, in which however female figures have had great importance. In una prospettiva storica, l’Autore analizza le opinioni di Cesare Lombroso e di Sigmund Freud in relazione al ruolo della donna nella società, evidenziando affinità e interessi comuni fra i due illustri studiosi. Essi condividevano un retroterra culturale di ascendenze positiviste ed evoluzioniste fortemente presente nell’Europa continentale dell’epoca. La questione di genere emerge tanto nella criminologia lombrosiana quanto nella psicoanalisi freudiana, due sistemi di pensiero che si succedono temporalmente ma che rientrano in un percorso discorsivo che impatta in profondità su di una società in rapida trasformazione, dove l’emancipazione della donna era divenuto tema perturbante. L’Autore confronta la categoria della donna “deviante/prostituta” prevalente nel fondamentale La donna delinquente (ma anche in opere lombrosiane minori), con affermazioni presenti nelle opere di Freud e in alcuni verbali di alcune riunioni della Società psicoanalitica di Vienna. In conclusione, sullo sfondo dei due personaggi e delle loro scuole si evidenzia la continuità con una visione patriarcale legata anche ad affinità biografiche, in cui tuttavia le figure femminili hanno avuto grande importanza.
