Il contributo è incentrato sull’iconografia del grifone nell’architettura urbana di Roma e nella scultura ufficiale, con particolare riguardo alle figure di Augusto e di Traiano e ai legami che proprio i grifoni consentono di intessere tra i rispettivi principati. Lo studio di una figura specifica come il grifone sarà condotto nelle diverse iconografie in cui essa appariva e nei differenti ‘media’ disponibili, per ricostruirne il significato simbolico nel contesto del linguaggio della ‘propaganda’ imperiale. This contribution focuses on the iconography of the griffin in the urban architecture of Rome and in the official sculpture, with regards to the figures of Augustus and Trajan and the ties that the griffins allow to weave between their respective principalities. The study of a specific figure such as the griffin will be conducted in the different iconographies in which it appeared and in the different ‘media’, to reconstruct its symbolic meaning in the context of the language of the imperial ‘propaganda’.
