The paper is dedicated to minimal and totally minimal groups that are close to being countably compact. This combination of compactness properties provides interesting consequences - for example, the countably compact totally minimal nilpotent groups are compact.
The compactness of the minimal connected countably compact groups cannot be established in ZFC, it depends on the existence of measurable cardinals.
