The contribution proposes an analysis of Italian historiography on welfare with particular attention to gender-oriented research, in comparison with the international debate, in order to identify acquisitions, open problems and perspectives. The aim of the article is to show how these studies can make further progress by adopting a transnational and, broadly speaking, global approach, also proposing a series of possible themes and issues to be addressed.
