I Mobile Mapping Systems sono veicoli attrezzati per rilevare i parametri geometrici delle strade al fine della sicurezza stradale, la segnaletica, gli accessi e i servizi. Per fare ciò essi sono equipaggiati con sistemi satellitari (GPS) ed inerziali (INS) di determinazione delle coordinate dei punti, uno ogni secondo, della loro traiettoria e con camere analogiche o digitali che fotografano la strada e le sue pertinenze. Queste foto contengono informazioni sugli edifici, sulle colture e quant'altro si vede dalla strada. Estraendo dalle foto alcuni di questi temi, si può costruire un GIS su itinerari turistici. Molti test, eseguiti in varie aree in Italia e in particolare nel Veronese, sono incoraggianti. Mobile Mapping Systems are vehicles equipped in order to Survey the road geometrical parameters for road security signals, gates and facilities. To do this they are equipped with Satellite (GPS) and inertial (INS) systems able to determine the coordinates of the points, one per second, their trajectory and with digital cameras that take frames of the road. These photos give information on buildings, agricultural products and whatever else can be seen from the road. If we extract some of these items from the pictures it is possible to create a GIS on touristic itineraries. Several tests have been made in different parts of Italy - in particular in the Verona province – and it can be said that they are encouraging.
