This contribution describes the results of a national research on the renewal of social housing districts, carried out from 2005 to 2009 in different Italian cities (Milano, Trieste, Gorizia, Monfalcone, Roma, Napoli, Bari, Palermo) by a group of universities, more than 100 researchers, students, artists, inhabitants and public institutions.
The Guidelines produced are not a traditional manual (LaboratorioCittàPubblica, Città pubbliche. Linee guida per la riqualificazione urbana,Paola Di Biagi, Elena Marchigiani eds., Bruno Mondadori, Milano 2009). They are conceived as a tool that can be used in different ways, by different actors, for different purposes. A tool that invites to look at social housing districts as an opportunity to re-think spatial and social urban regeneration policies.
