Equilibri in mutamento nell'Europa del terzo millennio. Il caso del confine orientale d'Italia.
Lungo il confine orientale d'Italia nell'ultimo secolo si è ripetitivamente verificato un processo di
selezione progressiva dei centri urbani preesistenti, che ha profondamente influenzato la loro capacità di sostenere un trend di sviluppo.
Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale c'è stato una spinta verso la duplicazione delle funzioni urbane che ha dato vita a insediamenti nuovi o rinnovati. Essendo i centri principali localizzati in aderenza al confine, quest'ultimo ha innescato l'agglomerazione di gente e di attività. Nel lungo termine, il processo ha portato all'emergere di un cluster di conurbazioni che a Sud-Est coprono le coste del Golfo di Trieste e verso Nord-Ovest la linea di confine italo-slovena fino a Gorizia. Cosmopolitismo, multipolarità e decentramento sono le principali caratteristiche di questa città-regione, che è destinata a diventare la metropoli dominante nella parte Sudorientale dell'area Alpino-adriatica.
Changing equilibria in the Europe of the third millenium.The case of Italian Eastern border.
Over the last hundred years we have been witnessing along the Eastern border of Italy a repeated selection among pre-existing urban centres which has deeply influenced their capacity to support a development path.
After the Second World War there has been a boost towards the duplication of urban functions which in turn has given birth to new or renewed settlements. The main centres being located just on the border, this latter was to trigger the agglomeration of peoples and activities. In the long run, the process has led to the emerging of a cluster of conurbations covering the shores of the Gulf of Trieste and the Slovene-Italian borderline reaching Gorizia to the north. Cosmopolitanism, multipolarity and devolution are the main characteristics of this city-region, which is bound to become the leading metropolis in the southern part of the Alps-Adria area.
