Abstract
A multicenter study was conducted in 12 hospital departments and university clinics to determine the clinical efficacy, the antibacterial activity and safety of ofloxacin in complicated UTIs. 155 patients with complicated UTIs have been treated. The dosage used varied from 400 to 800 mg daily in two doses. Positive clinical results (patients cured and improved) were obtained in 138 of 150 evaluable patients (92%), with bacterial assay showing eradication of 118 strains of the total 129 isolated before treatment (91.5%). Safety was high, adverse events being reported in eight patients (5.2%). Similarly, 15 patients treated at the institute of Infectious Diseases of the University of Verona for complicated UTIs showed positive clinical results in 80% of cases in response to a dosage of 400-600 mg daily. The extent of pathogen eradication was 86.6%. Only one patient showed epigastric pain.
