In the Appendix to Eugenius of Toledo (MGH auct. ant. 14, 1905), Friedrich Vollmer
published an enigmatic set of pieces against love and marriage in old age (carm. 29-47),
which he had found in a fragment of a late ninth- or tenth-century manuscript (Madrid
10029, Part I). Another copy, unnoticed by Vollmer, has been recently identified:
El Escorial M-III-2, a twelfth-century law book from northern Spain, modelled on a
tenth-century Mozarabic exemplar. Here the anthology is found within an assemblage of
texts used as a prelude to the Ervigian Liber Iudicum. This new evidence provides some
clarification to the text and to the original intention of the anthology. Entre os poemas da chamada Antologia Eugeniana publicados por Vollmer em 1905
(MGH, Auct. Ant. 14), encontramos um conjunto de breves composições contra o amor
e o matrimónio na idade avançada. O testemunho usado por Vollmer (Madrid, 10029,
Part I, s. IX ex.-X) apresenta um texto lacunar e problemático. Um segundo testemunho
que passou despercebido ao editor alemão foi entretanto identificado: El Escorial M-III-2
(s. XII, León, a partir de modelo moçárabe do s. X). Esta nova cópia elucida alguns dos
problemas textuais e ajuda-nos a entender melhor a natureza desta antologia.
