The ability of several yeast species to grow on a methanol containing medium is associated with the induction of various enzymes. The addition of methanol with different concentrations of metals such as copper or cadmium causes variation in the cell size. Methanol seems to increase the period required to reach the stationary phase if it is referred to growth of yeasts in glucose.
