Preliminary checklist of wild bees of the eastern Venetian plain (north- eastern Italy).
In order to elaborate the present checklist of wild bees (Hymenoptera, Apoidea) the results of research carried out during the 1930s by Giordani Soika in the Lido of Venice and the data of more recent surveys, from 2003, reported in the volumes of ‘Flora & Fauna of the eastern Venetian plain’ were used. In this preliminary che- cklist 180 species of wild bees, belonging to seven families, are listed. The observed species represent about 19% of the Italian fauna of wild bees. This list is still largely incomplete, but it allows us to know species richness of wild bees in the studied are- a, as well as the importance of these pollinators in maintaining plant biodiversity.
