Abstract
The interest to electrochemical phenomena under cavitation is caused by the following reasons. First, cavitation erosion is accompanied by corrosion /1, 2/. Consequently, the destruction of metals and alloys due to cavitation is not a pure mechanical process and electrochemical phenomena contribute to the erosion. Second, the use of a high-intensity ultrasound to intensify or control the reactions in electrochemical technologies also includes the action of cavitation on electrochemical systems. Ultrasonically-induced effects can be registrated both as the variation of electrode potential (at a constant current) /3-5/ or as the variation of current (at a constant potential) which give the information about the rate and direction of the electrochemical reactions /6/. Moreover, as noted in /3, 7/, an electrochemical response (a variation in potential or current) to cavitation may serve as a source of information about the cavitation near solid (metallic) surface or in a free liquid when an electrode of sufficiently small size is used. The present work is devoted to investigation of the mechanism of the effect of cavitation on electrode processes and aimed to obtain better understanding of the relationship between electrochemical response and the extension and activity of cavitation.
