L’articolo riesamina il ruolo dell’apparizione del Tevere nel libro VIII dell’Eneide all’interno delle tradizioni leggendarie e delle stratificazioni compositive relative all’arrivo di Enea nel Lazio e alla sua funzione di eroe fondatore. Anche alla luce della complessa tessitura intertestuale dell’episodio viene discussa l’esegesi antica e moderna dell’emistichio 8.41 concessere deum e dell’espressione rumore secundo di 8.90.
The article examines the role of the apparition of the Tiber in Book VIII of the Aeneid within the legendary traditions and compositional stratifications concerning Aeneas' arrival in Latium and his role as a founding hero. Also in the light of the complex intertextual texture of the episode, the ancient and modern exegesis of the half-line 8.41 concessere deum and of the expression rumore secundo of 8.90 is discussed.
