This already published paper aimed to explain the circumstances of Gordian III's ill-fated military campaign in Mesopotamia against the Persians, in which Plotinus was in some way "embedded". A Post- Scriptum has been added now, discussing the interpretation of the relating events as given in an article by L. Okamura.
