One of the very first courses that students enrolled in French law schools have to follow is the one on the 'introduction au droit'. What is the role of this subject in Italian legal education and scholarship? The paper aims to answer this question, by surveying the didactic and scientific developments of the subject in the Italian peninsula in the last two centuries.
