This paper aims to explore the conceptual and constitutive potential of metaphors in journalistic texts dealing with the global economic crisis. The corpus analysis is based on ca. 120 economic texts from online versions of Handelsblatt, der Spiegel, il Sole 24 Ore and il Corriere della Sera. It focuses on the most recurrent conceptual metaphors in a contrastive perspective, and investigates convergence and divergence in the metaphoricity of German and Italian texts.
