Il laboratorio qui descritto, svolto con allievi di scuola secondaria di primo grado (età 12-13
anni), è basato su attività interdisciplinari di matematica e chimica. Dopo aver introdotto la
teoria atomica e il modello dell’atomo, si è parlato di numero atomico, di numero di massa e di
peso atomico, soffermandosi sul concetto di media ponderata. Lo studio dell’atomo ha offerto
lo spunto per introdurre il concetto di ordine di grandezza, le potenze con esponente negativo e
la notazione scientifica dei numeri. Per concludere, il concetto di proporzionalità diretta è stato
illustrato nell’ambito delle reazioni chimiche, con un semplice esperimento. The workshop described here has been carried out with students of lower secondary school level (aged 12-13) and is based on interdisciplinary activities in mathematics and chemistry. After introducing the atomic theory and the model of the atom, we discussed the atomic number, the mass number and the atomic weight, focusing on the concept of average weight. The study of the atom has been the occasion to introduce the notion of order of magnitude, powers with negative exponents and scientific notation numbers. To conclude, the concept of direct proportionality has been illustrated with a simple experiment in the context of chemical reactions.
