It is necessary to proceed with considerable caution when it comes to process the data obtained through the experiments carried out on small models. The existence of phenomena related to flow laminarity - that has been observed during the experiments on small models - or of the blockage effect - when larger models are being used - calls for preliminary verification and correction of the data obtained. It is only after these adjustments that results are calculated and data fairing is carried out. To this end our Institute uses the "smoothing splines2 by Schoenberg and Reinsch, as suggested by C. de Boor.
