In 2006 an experimental trial started in the
collaboration among ERSA, the Viticolori La Delizia
Winery and the Department of Life Sciences of the
University of Trieste, with the aim to obtain a yield
forecasting model based on airborne/remote indices
and field measurements. Beside the classic NDVI,
some other indices very sensi t ive to leaf area
(MCARI, MTVI) or to chlorophyll content (TCARI,
TCARI/OSAVI) were computed. In few vineyards,
several plots were considered and yield and quality
parameters assessed, in order to calculate their correlations
with the computed indices. In 2007 and 2008
high-resolution images were obtained using an AISA
EAGLE sensor mounted on a helicopter, while in
2006 and 2008 satellite images with low resolutions
were acquired (IKONOS and ASTER, respectively).
TCARI, TCARI/OSAVI and MCARI revealed to be the
most interesting as best forecasting yields both in
Pinot gris and in Cabernet Sauvignon.
