Ille ego sum qui te colui. Le relazioni sociali nelle Epistulae ex Ponto

In his last books from exile, the Latin poet Ovid chooses provocatively to disclose the name of the addressees of his poetic epistles, who are members of the Roman élite and friends of Augustus. The poet boasts his friendship with them, and tries to commit them to show themselves worthy of the encomiastic portrait the poet paints of them. At the same time, giving them instructions on how to approach Augustus on his behalf and elogiating their imperial lealism, Ovid develops a sort of etiquette for courtesans.

Nella sua ultima opera dall'esilio, il poeta latino Ovidio sceglie provocatoriamente di chiamare per nome i membri eminenti dell'élite di Roma, personalmente legati ad Augusto, ai quali si rivolge, chiamandoli in causa come amici. In questo modo li impegna a dimostrarsi all'altezza del ritratto encomiastico che il poeta dedica loro, dando prova delle qualità morali loro attribuite soccorrendo l'esule. Allo stesso tempo, istruendoli su come intercedere per lui presso Augusto e lodando il loro lealismo verso il sovrano, Ovidio suggerisce ai propri destinatari un modello di comportamento per muoversi nel mondo della corte.
