The existence of a palatium at Aquileia during Late Antiquity is confirmed by a panegyric delivered at Treviri in 307 A.D., but the place where it was located is still unknown. According to la test research, the remains of this building - whether it be a real imperial palace or simply a temporary residence of the emperor - should be sought in the vicinity of the Circus, as the numerous sources regarding the topographical locations of these two structures in imperial cities suggest. Urban analysis and the discovery of sculptural works of significant quality found to the east of the Circus not only appear to confirm this hypothesis but also to indicate this area as the likely location of the imperial residence. L'esistenza di un palatium ad Aquileia in epoca tardoantica è provata da un panegirico pronunciato a Tre viri nel 307 d .C., ma il luogo ove esso era collocato è tuttora ignoto. Stando alle ultime ricerche, i resti di questo edificio - sia che si tratti di un vero e proprio palazzo imperiale oppure di una residenza temporanea dell'imperatore - andrebbero ricercati nei pressi del circo, come suggeriscono le numerose attestazioni della vicinanza topografica, nelle città sedi dell'imperatore, di queste due strutture. Considerazioni di carattere urbanistico e il rinvenimento di alcune opere scultore di notevole livello nell'area a est del circo sembrerebbero non solo comprovare questa ipotesi ma anche indicare questa zona come probabile sito della residenza imperiale.
