A workshop called Attitudes towards mathematics was set up in order to give mathematics teachers information on students’ measurement of «attitude to mathematics». After the introduction of some basic theoretical notions on different concepts of attitude, an easy-to-apply instrument to collect data related to these different concepts is presented. The creation of a database is also explained and different types of analysis, using elementary descriptive statistics, are shown. 110 third-year students (64 men and 46 women) of two secondary schools in Trieste (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy), provide the necessary data. Attitude towards mathematics is analyzed among the whole group and in those subgroups, who show negative, neutral or positive tendency. The data concerning male and female students are also studied separately to see if there are differences in gender issues.
