This report describes a severe nematode infestation in a female Barbary macaque hosted in Parco Natura Viva - Garda Zoological Park (Bussolengo, VR). The 15 year-old animal was found dead in February 2010. During the necroscopy to ascertain the death cause, numerous nematodes were found in the large intestine. For parasitological and pathological findings, a portion of large intestine, spleen, heart, kidney and liver were sent to the Division of Veterinary Pathology (University of Udine) fixed in 4% buffered formaldehyde. The severe catarrhal colitis described was clearly linked to a massive infestation of Trichuris trichiura. To our knowledge this is the first report (with parasitological and pathological finding) of trichuriasis in Macaco sylvanus
