In this paper is presented: 1) a large scale analysis (1:5.000) of the development, in the last decade,
of urban sprawl in the territorial system around the Udine town; 2) a method for analysing at large
scale the above phenomenon, which is based on the integration of a 1:25.000 scale land use map
with a spatial database of the buildings from the 1:5.000 Regional Digital Technical Map; 3) an
assessment of the map scale effect on the representation and analysis of the Udine peri-urban
landscape structure, based on indices from landscape ecology
