This article provides an overview of what has been published regarding the centenary of the foundation of the Italian Communist Party (1921-2021). The recurring themes, absences, controversies, positions and new historiographical acquisitions are discussed, in the Italian context and, where actually present, internationally. An evaluation is also attempted of the public history produced in support of the anniversary (exhibitions and documentaries), trying to compare the memory of 2021 with previous anniversaries and with a selected part of the existing bibliography on the chosen topics of discussion.
