‘Latrator Anubis.’ Alien Divinities in Augustan Rome, and how to tame Monsters through Aetiology

Through the analisis of an Ovidian episode (Met. 5), this article discusses the Augustan response to Egypt, the most marvellous and paradoxical land of the East, and in particular to its religion and theriomorphic divinities.
