Abstract
Technical communicators need to be prepared for the challenges of translation and localization in an increasingly globalized world. This chapter focuses on important abilities for technical communicators writing for and collaborating with translators, and it serves as a guide for technical communicators who are often a bridge between engineers and translators during the content creation processes. With input from engineers and designers, technical communicators can produce texts to be translated in a style that takes into account cultural differences. This chapter provides an overview of issues in writing for translation and in translators’ editing and revision to facilitate this process. The chapter also discusses how mutual understanding of each other’s profession can enhance collaboration between engineers, technical communicators, and translators.
