Abstract
In last years a lot of papers regarding the experimental data and the numerical calculations of wave making of a ship form have been published. Moreover the knowledge of scale effects on the experimental determination of the wave making resistance of model tests in towing tanks is still lacking. The aim of the present paper is mainly to analyse the above-mentioned scale effects and to compare the experimental results with those ones obtained by a numerical method. Therefore experimental investigations have been carried out in towing tank with two models in different scales for each of the three Series 60 hulls having CB = 0.60, 0.70, 0.80 and standard displacement volume of 10000 m3. For each of three hulls the form factors were also determined using the method proposed by Hughes and Prohaska and the conversion of the model to full scale data was done using the ITTC’78 methodology. The numerical calculation of the wave resistance has been carried out using a BEM methodology (Boundary Elements Methodology). The experimental results for the wave resistance obtained by the longitudinal cut method have been compared both with those ones obtained by numerical calculation and with those ones obtained by the Froude method keeping into account the form factors. At last the influence of the block coefficient on the wave resistance has been analyse
