In the paper, the language intensity modification, in terms of literary and intercultural pragmatics, in Ivan Cankar’s novel Martin Kačur (1906) and in the Italian translation by Martin Kačur Biografia di un idealista (1981) by translator Arnaldo Bressan, was discussed.
Although it would be expected that Cankar’s strengthening of meaning corresponds to characteristic immediacy and hyperbola in the Italian communication style, some translation shifts indicate the need for a different way of semantic intensification in the Italian text.
