LA CASCATA DELLE MARMORE (TERNI – UMBRIA): STORIA ED EVOLUZIONE DI UN «GEOMORFOSITO» THE MARMORE FALL (TERNI - UMBRIA REGION): HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF A «GEOMORPHOSITE»
La Cascata delle Marmore, realizzata dal Salto effettuato dal F. Velino nel F. Nera, rappresenta un elemento morfologico particolarmente «scenografico» dell'Umbria. Essa, infatti, per le sue caratteristiche assume in importante ruolo in ambito morfologico, a causa della presenza di morfotipi fluviali e carsici abbastanza esclusivi, ma anche in campo ambientale, culturale ed infine turistico. L'origine del salto è legata a fattori antropici che risalgono all'epoca romana, motivo di contesa dal punto di Vista idraulico/politico nel passato, attualmente costituisce un esempio abbastanza singolare di «morfogenesi in atto», sito particolarmente interessante dal punto di vista sia scientifico che turistico, da essere annoverato tra i Geomorfositi: luoghi dalle peculiarità ambientali s.l. degne di particolare attenzione. The confluence of Velino River into Nera River creates the Marmore waterfall. The last one represent a very amazing element in the Umbria region. Since its features the fall has an important morphological role, because of particular fluvial and karstic morphotypes and it represents a great value in environmental, cultural and tourist fields. Human factors trigger the fall development since the Roman age. In the past the Marmore fall was also a reason for hydrological and political disagreement. Nowadays the fall is an example of «morphogenetic process in progress» very significant for scientific and tourist interests. The Marmore fall is easily classified as geomorphosite: landforms, with a high scientific or cultural value.
