The memory of the women involved in various capacities in the events of the Risorgimento has not been given much attention by Italian cinema. The “heroines” (Anita Garibaldi, the Countess Castiglione and ‒ only recently ‒ Princess Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso) have been extolled in various films, but hundreds of other women who played an important role only make fleeting appearances.
