In the European area the introduction of digital technologies in terrestrial television services is named DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial), and it is one of the objectives of the European Union Action Plan eEurope 2005: an information society for all’. Microsimulation modelling was first introduced by Orcutt and has since received much attention from researchers studying sociological phenomena. The main purpose of our simulation model was to research the dynamics of DVB-T adoption processes. In principle the model should also be useful for making predictions about the effects of different policy options. The no policy scenario showed that without a switchover deadline, the new technology was unlikely to succeed, unless better quality is provided in comparison with traditional services and competing price options. In the case of subsidies starting in 2004, all users may have become acquainted with the new technology from the first years when DVT was available, and not only the wealthy ones.
