The aim of the Author is defining the concepts of afro-descendant and afro-Mexican used by the National institute of statistics, geography and informatics (Inegi) during the Encuesta intercensal 2015 in the Costa Chica of Oaxaca, Mexico. The Author offers a theoretical critic to the terms used by the Inegi for the original black population counting and explains the lack of congruity for the local context. El objetivo del Autor es discutir los conceptos de afrodescendiente y afromexicano empleados por el Instituto nacional de estadística, geografía e informática (Inegi) durante la Encuesta intercensal 2015 en la Costa Chica de Oaxaca, México. El Autor ofrece una crítica teórica a los términos usados por el Inegi en el conteo original de la población negra y destaca la falta de congruencia para el contexto local. L’obiettivo dell’Autore è discutere sui concetti di afro-discendente e afro-messicano utilizzati dall’Istituto nazionale di statistica, geografia e informatica (Inegi) nella Encuesta intercensal 2015 svoltasi nella Costa Chica di Oaxaca, in Messico. Avanza una critica teorica alla terminologia utilizzata dall’Inegi nel conteggio originale della popolazione nera e ne rileva la scarsa congruità per il contesto locale.
