Abstract
The Somali language has gone through various stages. This language evolved from an oral language to a written one after it was officially transcribed in Latin alphabet in 1972.Somali is one of the four most widely taught and researched languages in Sub- Saharan Africa. The four languages are Swahili, Hausa, Somali and Amharic. On the other hand, Somali language recently became a cross-border language in East Africa. Somali is the undisputed official language of Somalia. It is spoken in not only Somalia but also in surrounding countries, such as Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya.
