Abstract
Photography has always been a tool used for the documentation of cities, as a matter of fact the urban settlement was among the first subjects preserved over time thanks to this apparatus starting from the 19th century. The contribution describes some significant episodes in the history of photography related to the representation of the city in relation to pictorial perspectives produced in the centuries preceding the invention of photography.
