This paper analyzes the issue of toponymic decoding, highlighting the heuristic flaw of the failure to consider or specify the plural form, sometimes somewhat obscured, in which entries are cited in sources. Simply recognizing the plural form of toponyms, however, allows unexpected explanations to emerge, which are otherwise difficult to achieve through other conjectural roads.
