Abstract
Differential diagnosis of melanoma includes not only melanocytic nevi, but also a series of non-melanocytic, benign and malignant, pigmented and nonpigmented skin tumors. Under routine conditions it is not a rare event facing common lesions that show unusual morphologic features or, on the other hand, uncommon skin tumors that exhibit peculiar clinical and dermoscopic characteristics. In this setting RCM can be a reliable tool for improving the confidence of the clinician when dealing with such difficult-to-interpret lesions. We present a series of lesions that can be encountered in a clinical setting of patients with pigmented and non-pigmented skin tumors. For some of these lesions (ink-spot lentigo and dermatofibroma) RCM features have been already described by clinical studies including series of cases [1, 2]. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.
