The research work in diplomatics done by the author in the course of the past decades concerning the Aquileian documents up to the 13th century has led to a new valuation of a number of patriarchal documents, above all of those of patriarch Poppo (1019-1042). These results have changed to a considerable extent the traditional ideas of what the city of Aquileia and its surroundings were like at that time. The repopulation and cultivation of the area around Aquileia after the period of Hungarian invasions did not take place in the first half of the 11 th century, but not until the first half of the 12th century. The first reliable mentioning of malaria (and consequently the first written proof of bog) does not date from the forties of the 13th century, but at least from 1213 and possibly even from the time around 1113. The earliest mentionig of a mill in Aquileia was believed to date from 1062, but this is no longer certain. Finally can be seen how illegal building activities of the 13th century go parallel with the interpolation (or even forgery) of a privilege of patriarch Poppo. Le ricerche diplomatiche dell'autore sui documenti aquileiesi, eseguiti nel corso degli ultimi decenni e concernenti i secoli centrali del medioevo, hanno condotto a nuove valutazioni di qualche documento patriarcale, soprattutto del patriarca Pappone (1019-1042). Questi risultati toccano in modo considerevole le idee tradizionali sull'aspetto della città di Aquileia e dei suoi dintorni in quest'epoca. Il ripopolamento e la coltivazione agraria nei dintorni di Aquileia, dopo le incursioni ungariche, si sono spostati dalla prima metà del secolo XI alla prima metà del secolo successivo. La prima sicura attestazione della malaria (e con ciò la prima attestazione scritta dell'impaludamento) si sposta dagli anni '40 del Duecento almeno al 1213, e forse fino al 1113 ca. La prima menzione di un molino in Aquileia, finora attribuita al 1062, non è più sicura. Infine si può vedere come illegali attività edilizie del Duecento furono eseguite parallelamente all'interpolazione (o forse falsificazione) di un privilegio del patriarca Poppone.
