Ireland and Elsewhere: The "Non-Irish" in Bernard MacLaverty's Fiction

PELASCHIAR, LAURA
2014
  • book part

Abstract
The article explores the ways in which Bernard MacLaverty makes ample and significant use of the 'non-Irish' in his texts By focussing on a thematic aspect of MacLaverty's fiction which runs throughout the author's entire production but which had been so far overlooked by critics, the essays shows how these non-Irish elements are strategically placed in dynamic tension with the Irish ones, a tension which is only occasionally suspended.
