Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) results
from a complex interaction between behavioral, en-
vironmental, and genetic factors. Although several
studies have defined a close relationship between cu-
mulative alcohol intake and risk of developing liver
damage, extensive individual variability exists in
disease susceptibility.
