I problemi della normatività e del valore impliciti nell’azione umana occupano una posizione centrale nel Trattato di filosofia di Marino Gentile, in quanto è nel dare conto di questi aspetti della nostra esperienza che la necessità dell’esercizio dell’intelligenza,
intesa come facoltà conoscitiva distinta dalla ragione, risulta in tutta la sua evidenza. Questo saggio mette in luce e discute il rapporto tra intelligenza, norma tività dell’azione umana e valore morale nel Trattato di Gentile. Esso sostiene anche che le conclusioni raggiunte da Gentile possono costituire una posizione originale nei dibattiti correnti sul realismo morale, perché offrono una soluzione inusuale al
problema del rapporto tra l’immagine scientifica del mondo e quella manifesta. The problems of normativity and value, which are implicit in human action, occupy a central position in the Treatise of Philosophy by Marino Gentile. According to Gentile, the importance of understanding – a cognitive faculty that he distinguishes form reason – is fully evident when one tries to account for those aspects of human experience. This essay highlights and discusses the relation between understanding, the normativity of human action and moral value in Gentile’s Treatise. It also suggests that Gentile’s conclusions can offer an original contribution to current debates about moral realism, since they offer an unusual solution to the problem of the relationship between the scientific and the manifest images of the world.
