Portis, from Abandoned Village to International Academy. A Project of Environmental Regeneration. Portis
Vecchio is a village, located in the north of Venzone (North East of Italy), almost completely abandoned after the
earthquake of 1976. Starting from June 2016, the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, with the National Fire Services, the
University of Udine, the Association of the Municipalities hit by an earthquake and Mayors of the Reconstruction of
Friuli and the Municipality of Venzone has signed an agreement for the activation of an international training school in
the field of seismic emergency management, called "SERM Academy", followed by the creation of a training camp in
Portis Vecchio. During the SERM-ex full scale exercises, the SERM Academy started some actions to secure building.
This will be followed by the realization of the landscape project made by the Space-Lab and Sprint-Lab laboratories of
the University which aims to regenerate the village, giving it an educational and a cultural role and transforming it into
an open-air museum.
