Abstract
The paper presents the Osservatorio degli italianismi nel Mondo (OIM), an online database and a homonymous research project on Italianisms in various European target languages, and the revision of the existing data and their structure which has been underway since 2017. The OIM is the digitized version of the Dizionario di italianismi in francese, inglese, tedesco (Stammerjohann et al. 2008). The paper focusses on the Italian loanwords in German registered in two opera, and outlines how further loans in this target language are being systematically integrated during the revision process, and how gaps and weaknesses in their lexicographical description are being filled.
