Abstract
The distribution area of Chalybion bengalense (Hymenoptera, Sphecidae), an allochthonous species of Asian origin, has expanded to the district of Venice. During a survey on the entomofauna of the Brussa area (eastern Veneto, Italy), an adult specimen of Chalybion bengalense (Dalhbom) (Hymenoptera, Sphecidae), an allochthonous species of Asian origin, was collected. Currently, the species is present in Europe only in Italy, specifically in the Veneto region, where specimens were first found in July 2008 in the district of Verona. Later, the species has been observed in Emilia-Romagna and Marche regions. The specimen considered in this note was collected on 10th August 2017 on the embankment of the Taglio Canal, near the anti-salt dam not far from the Bacino Villa hydrovora, in the territory of Caorle (district of Venice), while it was foraging on inflorescences of Pastinaca sativa. The species, naturalized in northern Italy, shows a good dispersion ability. In particular, the finding of this sphecid wasp reported in this paper is the easternmost for Italy.
