Nel programma del corso di “Informatica e sistemi automatici” per l’anno scolastico 2006-07 della
V Liceo scientifico e tecnologico dell’ITI Marconi di Rovereto, ho inserito in via sperimentale un
modulo relativo alla conoscenza delle problematiche e degli utilizzi dei sistemi informativi territoriali
(GIS). Lo studio delle nozioni di base della cartografia rappresenta un essenziale punto di partenza.
L’uso di sistemi informatici e telematici e gli esempi applicativi fanno meglio cogliere gli
aspetti teorici e pratici dei GIS e della cartografia. Gli studenti riescono così ad apprezzare sia la
potenza espressiva della mappa come ausilio alla comprensione della realtà e come strumento di
simulazione e pianificazione sia l’alto grado di interdisciplinarietà, che queste materie richiedono.
L’utilizzo di strumenti prevalentemente Open Source, oltre a ragioni economiche, offre l’opportunità
di operare con formati e protocolli di comunicazione standard, di conoscere comunità di ricercatori,
che operano in vari campi sia scientifici che umanistici e soprattutto di avere un approccio
educativo basato sulla costruzione del proprio sistema. In the program course “Computer science and automatic system” for the last class of the “Liceo scientifico
e tecnologico” in the “ITI Marconi” in Rovereto, school year 2006-07, I’ve put an experimental
module about the knowledge of problems and uses of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
The study of basic cartographic notions is an essential starting point. Use of computerized and telematic
systems and applied examples help to catch theoretical and pratical aspects of GIS and cartography.
Students appreciated on one hand the expressive power of the map, which enhances a better understanding
of the world and it enables them in planning being such an impotant simulation tool and on
the other hand the high degree of interdisciplinarity needed.
The prevalent use of “Open Source” tools gives the chance to deal with standard data formats and
communication protocols, to get to know various research communities that work in many fields, both
scientific and humanistic, and to use an education approach where each one creates his own system.
