The paper tried to identify some difference among the transborder flows of Austrian and Yugoslavian (till 1991) citizens at the borders of Friuli Venezia Giulia. We tried to to explain these differences in the light of some leading economic indicatorsof the two countries. This analysis demonstrates how the economyinfluences the behaviour of populations and international relationship in the area.
