Abstract
The marginality is not a static concept, but a condition that evolves. The margin, therefore, is not a defined line, but an intersection space where contrasting elements confront each other, creating opportunities for projects embedded in the territorial context. The “Borghi-Boschi” research explores marginality through the context of the Friulan mountains, an area characterized by strong geographical, historical, and cultural fragmentation. The project focuses on the mountain as a margin, not only as a physical limit but as a dynamic space, in a continuous process of cyclical redefinition, through the overlapping of its different spatial definitions. The research develops from a design perspective, aiming to recover and revitalize the existing resources of the Friulian mountains, using architecture as a tool to interact with the local reality, preserving architectural and cultural heritage, but also addressing modern challenges such as the progressive depopulation of mountain areas. The project aims to highlight testimonies of the Friulian mountain that risk being forgotten, systematizing its architectural form and its connection with the landscape. In this process, the goal is to promote the culture of wood and the sustainable regeneration of the territory for the development of replicable design strategies that can be applied in other similar contexts.
