The Authors intervene on the debate concerning the recognition of <i>quilombola</i> communities in Brazil, incorporated in the coloniality of power. The suspicious considerations on the <i>quilombola</i> evocations are interpreted as not very "authentic" or strictly instrumental. The objective is to demonstrate ethnographically how such requests for recognition reflect a moral vocation.
