During the wars of the first decades of the 18th century, in close relation with the weakening of the supremacy of the Republic of Venice on the Adriatic and the economic transformations that occurred between the 17th and 18th centuries the small and medium-sized ports of the Adriatic emerged as protagonists of the routes of traffic. In this scenario, the quantitative and qualitative hierarchies of the goods transported also found new balances, causing profound changes in the economic and commercial mechanisms of that sea. The paper focuses on the effects and methods of this emergence and the consequences they had on Venetian Istria. Furthermore, he hypothesizes that Venetian Istria was able to exploit changes in order to support the economic growth of which it was the protagonist in the 18th century. Finally, the paper tries to highlight the practices implemented by Venetian Istria to partially escape from the shadow of Venice.
In stretta relazione con l’affievolirsi della supremazia della Repubblica di Venezia sull’Adriatico e le trasformazioni economiche avvenute tra XVII e XVIII secolo, nel corso delle guerre dei primi decenni del Settecento, i piccoli e medi porti dell’Adriatico emersero come protagonisti delle rotte dei traffici. In tale scenario anche le gerarchie, quantitative e qualitative delle merci trasportate trovarono nuovi equilibri provocando profondi mutamenti nei meccanismi economici e commerciali di quel mare. Il paper si focalizza sugli effetti e i modi di tale emersione e sulle conseguenze che essi ebbero sull’Istria veneta. Inoltre ipotizza che l’Istria veneta fu in grado di sfruttare mutamenti ai fini di sostenere la crescita economica di cui essa fu protagonista nel XVIII secolo. Infine, il paper cerca di evidenziare le pratiche messe che l’Istria veneta attuò per uscire in parte dall’ombra di Venezia.
